Designed for versatility to cover a broad range of applications and conditions from inshore dinghy racing to offshore big boat sailing, the Aegis range includes every innovative bell and whistle we could think of (except for actual bells and whistles). Best in cooler conditions because, while there is no insulation and the fabric is highly breathable, it is designed with protection in mind. For cold weather sailing, add mid-layers (Zephyr, Flying Point Fleece) to achieve warmth without weight.

  1. Big boat spray top

    Posted by Trevor

I bought this for doing bow on big boats that are very wet. I have a Henri Lloyd breeze jacket and a HL Offshore/ocean jacket. The light jacket is ok for summer time but no neck seal, the offshore kit is just a pain for buoy racing with a huge collar and double cuffs. This spray top fits it's intended purpose very well.

I think the top is a bit heavy for dinghy racing unless you normally do it in cold water/air venues. However I do feel the heavier weight will be welcome in big waves and over time will last longer than lighter weight materials. So far the velcro and zippers have been great. The 'gut' pocket is awesome, you can access it on either side, and there is a small arm pocket that is very useful as well.

There is a rubberized/neo seal at the bottom that is nice, the neck seal is good along with the wrists. Wish the watch window was larger. You need to secure your left wrist while lining up the watch window. Great feature, hope they keep it, but make it larger. :) Another nice feature is the angled zipper, much easier to operate. It's nice to help vent the top by opening the neck seal and zipper.

All in all, great product and higher quality than I was expecting. I got mine on sale at a retail store, couldn't afford to pass it up. It's now my favorite piece and probably the most versitile.

  2. Great value!

I use this jacket for everything from small boat racing to "Big Boats" on San Francisco Bay. Love the simplicity.

The "weight" of the waterproof, breathable fabric is just right. There are now "extras" to weight the top down and the pocket is plenty big for a VHF radio and a copy of SIs.

I wear a Spinlock Zero underneath, and love the combo.
